On 8th December St Michael’s Church, Basingstoke played host to a Carols by Candlelight in aid of the Pelican Cancer Foundation and St Michael’s Hospice, Basingstoke. The church was beautifully decorated by the Friends of the Hospice and the wonderful singing by the Winchester Singers and the Chamber Choir of Daneshill School really put the congregation in the Christmas mood. The event was enhanced by the presence of Dame Mary Fagan, the Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire, and also the Mayor and Mayoress of Basingstoke, Counsellor and Mrs Brian Gurden. The Reverend Roger Royle gave the address while the former tennis ace, Tim Henman, read one of the lessons. The Pelican Cancer Foundation was delighted to be able to collaborate with St Michael’s Hospice for such an enjoyable occasion.
