Donate in memory
Making a donation to charity in memory of a loved one can be a beautiful and positive way in which to celebrate their life.
'In memory' webpage
Through creating an ‘in memory’ webpage, friends and family can join in remembering a loved one with messages and donations to charity. It's simple and quick to set up a personalised 'in memory' page on websites such as JustGiving, BT My Donate and Virgin Money Giving, and these sites ensure money is collected securely.
Mike Sedgwick said he would prefer that, instead of flowers, donations were made to Pelican. To date, Pelican has received over £5,000 donated in Mike's memory via the JustGiving page, set up by Mike's daughter, Nikki.
'In memory' collections at funerals and memorial services
Other people choose to donate in memory of a loved on through arranging collections at funerals and memorial services. Most funeral directors are willing to help with the necessary arrangements and Pelican can supply personalised collection envelopes.
In November 2011 at the funeral of their father, Donald Finlayson, daughters Helen and Jenny very kindly organised donations to Pelican in lieu of flowers.
Mr Finlayson had been diagnosed with pseudomyxoma (cancer of the appendix) in 2005 and was operated on by Brendan Moran at HHFT Basingstoke Hospital. Jenny explains, "We wanted to raise the money for Pelican because of the help the Pelican team gave us and for giving Dad his great extra six years of life."
Over 200 people attended Mr Finlayson's funeral and donated over £1,000 to Pelican.
We are very grateful to Nikki, Helen and Jenny, and to everyone who has thought of Pelican and chosen to support us through making a donation in memory of a loved on.
