All research proposals that are submitted during our annual research call will be assessed using the rigorous review process set out in the Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC) guidelines and research best practice.
All applications that meet the basic criteria of the charity will be sent for two external peer reviews. Applicants are asked to suggest peer reviewers and may also recommend reviewers who should not be approached. Pelican Cancer Foundation will ask two specialists in the same field as the application to review the proposal against set criteria. Applications are reviewed for scientific merit and also for viability and possible advantages for today’s cancer patients.
Peer reviewers will provide a scoring for every application reviewed. This score and reviewers comments are presented to the Research Review Panel. The Panel, which consists of representatives from different areas of scientific relevance to the charity, will take consideration of the peer review responses when reviewing applications.
