Pelican supports research that informs and improves secondary liver cancer treatment today.

The charity’s research studies investigate ways to improve survival for today’s liver cancer patients as well as the quality of life that patients can continue to enjoy after treatment. Our research looks at ways of maximising the number of patients that are suitable for surgery, refining precision treatments and assessing quality of life outcomes.

In collaboration with the Quality of Life Group from the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC), we have investigated patient quality of life issues arising from secondary liver tumours, particularly after surgery. Read the abstract – NBCI PubMed

Pelican also funds the Basingstoke Hepatobiliary Research Office, a liver research room housing comprehensive patient data spanning twenty years. Data from this resource have underpinned a number of important research studies. The resulting publications have prompted changes in practice that have saved and improved many lives.
