Education

Pelican has run hundreds of training courses which have advanced the skills of thousands of clinicians across the UK and internationally

Hundreds of thousands of patients have benefited from improved surgery and bowel cancer management.

Millions of family members and friends of patients have been grateful for their loved one living well for longer.

Pelican Cancer Foundation delivers ground-breaking workshops and conferences that cover the latest advances in cancer treatment, technology and surgery techniques.

These are run by an exceptional faculty of multi-disciplinary specialists and the Pelican Centre offers tailored training facilities with advanced technology and equipment, including high-definition live links to the hospital operating theatres at HHFT Basingstoke.

Since 2003, Pelican has run a number of National Education Programmes which have all aimed to bring multidisciplinary clinicians together to share knowledge, stay up to date, and standardise decision making to improve outcomes for patients with rectal cancer. These workshops have generally been run as roadshows touring the UK and Ireland with the aim of reaching clinicians in as wide an area as possible and therefore maximising the impact on patient care.

Pelican has delivered 4 National Education Programs: MDT-TME, LOREC, SPECC and IMPACT, training over 8,000 clinicians across the UK and internationally. The 5th National Education Programme, OReCO, was launched in January 2024 and will see 20 regional workshops delivered across the UK, completion December 2026.

In addition to its National Education Programmes, each year Pelican delivers a series of training courses for healthcare clinicians from a range of disciplines including surgery, pathology, radiology, oncology and nursing.
