Our liver cancer team

Mr Myrddin (Merv) Rees

Hepatobiliary Director, and a Consultant Hepatobiliary Surgeon at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital since 1986. Mr Rees has established a liver surgery unit at Basingstoke which is recognised worldwide for its expertise.

Mr Rees is a past President of AUGIS (Association of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeons) serving from 2006-2008. Since 1995 Mr Rees has led the ARK fundraising appeal. His relentless passion and determination drove the realisation of this £5 million Centre, which houses the Pelican Cancer Foundation.

Mr Tim J John

Consultant Hepatobiliary and General Surgeon at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital since 1998. Mr John has a particular interest in laparoscopic hernia repair.

Miss Fenella Welsh

Consultant Hepatobiliary and General Surgeon at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital since 2005. Miss Welsh regularly presents on multidisciplinary colorectal liver metastases treatment and surgery on Pelican courses. She has a particular interest in microwave ablation.

Mr Ben Cresswell

Consultant Hepatobiliary and General Surgeons at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital since 2011.  Mr Cresswell also sits on the Pelican Cancer Foundation Research Panel and was previously President of the Association of Surgeons in Training.

Sister Hannah Stewart

Hepatobiliary Clinical Nurse Specialist at the Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital.

Dr Delia Peppercorn

Consultant Radiologist and Clinical Lead for Radiology at the hospital since 1999. Dr Peppercorn set up and leads the MRI service for Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital. Dr Peppercorn’s particular interests are in body imaging, particularly hepatobiliary, and rectal MR and musculoskeletal MR.
